The American College of Chest Physicians has released the 9th edition of its guidelines on antithrombotic therapy and thrombosis prevention. Published in Chest, the guidelines provide risk stratification recommendations for major clinical areas, including medical therapy, surgery, cardiovascular disease, atrial fibrillation, stroke, pregnancy, pediatrics, and travel. It is extremely advisable for Ame’s and persons traveling long-haul¬† operations….

The Aviation Health Conference that was held in London  last October continued to emphasize cabin crew and passenger health, but will also targeted a wider audience, including flight deck crew when appropriate. Here you can see presentations regarding to Cosmic Radiation, Flight fatigue, Cabin Hygiene, Malaria and crews and Health effects of volcanic ashes. Seg√ļn informa Europa Press desde Miami , los familiares de un pasajero que viajaba en un vuelo operado por American ¬†Airlines (AA) han demandado a la aerol√≠nea por servir una comida en mal estado que le caus√≥ la muerte y, adem√°s, por no atenderle adecuadamente cuando presentaba s√≠ntomas de malestar durante el trayecto.¬†El hecho tuvo lugar el pasado 28 de mayo despu√©s de que¬†el¬†afectado¬†consumiera un plato que ‘supuestamente‘ conten√≠a pollo en mal estado durante el vuelo Barcelona-Nueva York a bordo de un avi√≥n de AA. La familia apunta a que se cometi√≥ alg√ļn tipo de negligencia al almacenar o conservar la comida ya que estaba contaminada con la bacteria ‘Clostridium Perfringens’.

Leemos en el √ļltimo n√ļmero de la revista ¬†Aviador (n¬ļ 61) del COPAC ¬†que el Congreso a trav√©s de una Proposici√≥n no de Ley ( n¬ļ 161/002299) del Grupo Socialista ha solicitado al gobierno que realice los estudios sanitarios y aeron√°uticos pertinentes para equipar los aviones con desfibriladores. La propuesta, presentada por la diputada Mercedes Coello destac√≥ la importancia de ¬†garantizar las condiciones de seguridad sanitaria…

Isidoro Merino autor del blog El Viajero Astuto ¬†trata de responder una vez m√°s a la pregunta tantas veces oida a bordo de un avi√≥n comercial: ¬ŅHay alg√ļn m√©dico a bordo?. De una manera muy amena¬† explica qu√© diferencias hay entre la normativa FAA y JAA. Nos recuerda que seg√ļn datos publicados por el¬† The New York Times, el a√Īo pasado se produjeron al menos 19.000 emergencias m√©dicas en vuelos comerciales; en su mayor√≠a,¬† casos leves, aunque en 442 ocasiones el avi√≥n tuvo que ser desviado de su ruta, y 96 pasajeros fallecieron. Y concluye que ser√≠a muy recomendable la¬† estandarizaci√≥n de la asistencia m√©dica en aviones comerciales.

Even for one year, Dr. Jules Eden answered questions on Travel Medicine that oftenly we have to deal with on our daily practice.
