The malinois: “Parachutist dogs”

Martes, 3 de enero de 2012 Twitter Sin comentarios

German shepherds are still used as war dogs by the American military but the lighter, stubbier Malinois is considered  better  for the tandem parachute jumping and rappelling operations often undertaken by SEAL (sea, air and land) teams. Labrador retrievers are also favored by various military organizations around the world.  Last year canine parachute instructor Mike Forsythe and his dog Cara set the world record for highest man-dog parachute deployment, jumping from more than 30,100 feet up. Here you can see a beautiful presentation that was taken directly from an email that is jumping from computer to computer without no master.¡ Let us Enjoy it ¡

Qantas B747 Accident Bangkok : “A repairing story”

Viernes, 12 de agosto de 2011 Esther Felipe Duyos Sin comentarios

A B747 Qantas Flight 1 flying from Sydney to London through Kangaroo Route overrun runway at landing in heavy rain for a Bangkok¬† stopover, 23-September-1999. This incident was Qantas’ most significant incident in fifty years of jet aircraft operation. There were no significant passenger injuries during an orderly evacuation of the aircraft ordered some 20 minutes after the rough landing. Thirty-eight passengers reported minor injuries. The aircraft was repaired and was returned to service. Here you can see a powerpoint presentation by Peter Thomas about the whole repairing process that took place to resume its flights more than six months after the accident. One can imagine through these photos ¬†how complex and¬†challenging ¬†can become such a work.

“What did the Romans ever do for me…. or why my organisation should be a member of ESAM?”

Miércoles, 23 de marzo de 2011 Enriqueta Alomar Sin comentarios

If you had still¬†any doubt about why we belong to ESAM, here a briefing sent us by Roland Vermeiren:¬† “You would be a member of a Europe wide organisation, which represents every significant aerospace organisation in Europe. It is a Society which would represent you at an influential level in EASA, at a time of major upheaval in aeromedical regulation in Europe. It is a society which can speak authoritatively on your behalf, instead of allowing pressure groups, politicians or journalists to dominate the debate. You are a member of an organisation which had built up strong connections with other major aerospace medical organisations, such as AsMA and IAASM.”
