Should there be child-free zones on planes and trains?

At 35,000ft, the klaxon-like howl of a distressed toddler screeches through a pressurised cabin. For travellers already stressed by lengthy security checks, crammed into cramped seating and unnerved by the very fact of being so high above ground, it’s almost enough to make them shatter the Plexiglas windows and jump. One airline is offering what it says is a solution. Budget carrier Air Asia says from February it will provide a “quiet zone” for passengers aged 12 and over at no extra cost.

International travel “makes athletes ill”

Jueves, 9 de agosto de 2012 Twitter Sin comentarios

The study – published in “British Journal of Sports Medicine” - tracked the daily health of 259 elite rugby players competing in the 2010 Super 14 Rugby Tournament. Over 16 weeks, teams from Australia, South Africa and New Zealand played in all three countries. For matches played outside home turf after international travel, illness incidence was higher.  Infections accounted for most of the reported illnesses. They suggest that various stressors could be involved, including changes in pollution, temperature, allergens, humidity, altitude, as well as different food, germs, and culture. It is suggested  that increased illness from travel is more likely to be due to the fact that the person is out of their normal environment instead of flying.

One of the authors, Prof Schwellnus said: “These findings could be relevant to the Olympics and might contribute to a home advantage.” Will there be this, one of the reasons because home atheletes win more medals at Olympics?  Tell us what you think..

Malaria – A hidden threat-

Lunes, 30 de abril de 2012 Pedro Ortiz García Sin comentarios

In 2010, about 3.3 billion people – almost half of the world’s population – were at risk of malaria. Every year, this leads to about 216 million malaria cases and an estimated 655.000 deaths. People living in the poorest countries are the most vulnerable, but aside from this, Malaria is also a threat to expatriates and travelers, posing a risk that should never  be overstated. World Malaria Day – which was instituted by the World Health Assembly at its 60th session in May 2007 – is a day for recognizing the global effort to provide effective control of malaria. It was celebrated 25th April and we remind you the importance of protecting all the employees at risk
